Hawkhill house situated on the E side of Hawkhill Place. T-shaped in plan, the house is depicted on the 1st edition of the 25-inch map (Forfarshire, 1881, sheet) and described in the Object Name Book of the Ordnance Survey as ' A neat plain house, three storeys high and built of freestone. A vegetable garden and a small tract of ornamental ground are attached. It is the residence of Miss Martin and the property of Mrs Nicols.

South of the house is a green, the property of the Hawkhill Bowling Club. A high and conspicuous flag ornaments the green'. (ONB 1863).

The 25-inch depiction of 1881 shows a flight of steps leading to the S facade of the building and extensions to the N.

A building to the same ground plan is shown on the current OS 1:2500 scale digital map.
