See NS55NW 146.00 for history and description of Gorbals Gravitational Waterworks

This valve chamber is situated at the junction between Lochiel Road and Kennishead Road. There are horizontal valves on each of the two 24-inch cast-iron mains pipes. This chamber was constructed as part of the 1902 Provisional Order authorizing new filters (filter 1 and 6 at High Filters) and a second 24-inch main (infomation from plan viewed by J Muylle entitled 'Provisional Order 1902 New Mains form Gorbals Works 2 1902', courtesy of Scottish Water).

Valve chambers often take the form of a subterranean room used to house valves on water pipes. Access is often provided by way of a manhole.

Infomation from Jelle Muylle, engineer carrying out survey of sites and structures of Gorbals Waterworks for RCAHMS, Historic Scotland funded, December 2007.
