Archaeology Notes

HY30NE 54 c.3941 0690

A circular searchlight emplacement has been identified from a WW II RAF vertical air photograph(NLA 16, frame 902, flown 22 June 1941), situated on the S side A964 road about 624m WSW of Twartquoy farmsteading.

Visible on the photographs are a group six Nissen type huts adjacent to the road (HY 39443 06952) and another group of three huts about 25m SW with the emplacement to the S. A few metres NE of the emplacement is another small feature, possibly a small machine gun position or fox hole.

It is not known whether anything survives of this feature.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), November 2008
