Field Visit (4 September 2010)

This cast-iron mileplate, which stood on the E verge of what is now Woodside Way on the E side of Glenrothes, was not found on the date of visit. Probably similar to the one dated 1844 three miles to the S (NT29NE 5), it would have indicated the distances in miles to Burntisland (12) to the south and New Inn (3), Cupar (12) and Newport (23) to the north.

The mileplate is depicted as a milestone on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife and Kinross 1854, Sheet 24), which notes only the distances to Cupar and Burntisland.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 4 September 2010.

Change Of Classification (29 February 2012)
