Archaeology Notes

NL69SE 11 6876 9380

A building, that may have been a shieling, is located in rough ground at the S end of the island of Maol Domhnaich, and is visible on vertical aerial photography (2005).

The building is shown on two photographs (S 1112 and S 1113) taken by Robert Atkinson in 1953 or 1954, and held at the School of Scottish Studies. Though ruinous, it appears to consist of two compartments built in drystone and standing to three or four courses. The mound on which it is sited measures about 9m in diameter.

Information from RCAHMS (GFG) 6 January 2011.
