(NO 3586 9742) Gairn Castle (NR) (In Ruins)
OS 6" map, (1938)
The remains of Abergairn Castle, a small tower-house, erected in 1614, comprise a rectangular main building surviving to 4ft maximum height, with a round tower at its NW angle, 10ft maximum height. The small size of the structure suggests that it was a hunting lodge of three or four storeys with garret.
W D Simpson 1932.
The remains of Abergairn Castle as described and planned by Simpson, have been re-pointed and preserved as a memorial to A Keiller.
Re-surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (N K B) September 1968.
Listed.
Scottish Castle Survey 1988; N Bogdan and I B D Bryce 1991.
