World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (28 October 2013)

A drill hall marked on the northern side of Walkerhaugh (see NT24SE 236) on the 2nd epoch map (surveyed 1897) had been replaced, by the time of the 3rd epoch map (surveyed 1906) by a much larger hall. The large hall has five bays to the north elevation with, to the right, a large door with arched light above and two smaller windows to the right. There is a single-storey extension to east and west and an instructor's house to the south, on Tweedbrae. In rubble masonry with sandstone dressings and slate roof.

In 1914 the hall was the drill station of "B" Squadron, Lothian & Borders Horse, and base for "G" Company, 8th battalion, the Royal Scots.

Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 28 October 2013.
