OS 6" map, Forfarshire, 2nd ed., (1923)

The site of the castle of Wedderburn, formerly East Powrie, which belonged to the Wedderburns and whose remains were extant in 1794 (Statistical Account [OSA] 1794).

It was demolished many years before 1885, most of the stones being removed and the remainder being used to build a dovecot on the site. Four sculptured stones from the castle are built into the farm buildings of Barns of Wedderburn (NO 434 346).

OSA 1794; A J Warden 1880-5; Name Book 1859.

No trace of the castle remains, but the circular dovecot still stands 15' high and roofless.

Visited by OS (J L D) 14 May 1958.
