Archaeology Notes

NO50NW 9 c. 530 067.

The lands of Carnbee are mentioned from 1309. The manor-house was pulled down in 1813. A stone bearing the initials 'S.I.M.' and 'L.M.M.' and the date '1638', a relic of the old house, can be seen in the south gable of the east wing of the Cot Houses at Carnbee.

The manor-pace of Carnbee or Nether Carnbee is mentioned specifically in 1534 and 1598.
