Archaeology Notes

NR72SW 6 7249 2099.

A rectangular building with a spur at each corner, is shown at NR 7249 2099 and annotated 'Moil Castle'.

Information from map: 1: 10560 (Report on the Burgh of Campbeltown 1832 published by authority of Parliament).

There is no trace of a building here. The position indicate is an area of almost perfectly level ground in an otherwise sloping field. Traditionally there may have been a residence or castle of the MacDonalds on or near this spot (information from Rev J A Webb, c/o Kintyre Nurseries).

Visited by OS (RDL) 7 March 1963.
