There is a fort on Clauchlands Point. It appears to have been surrounded with a mound of earth, except on the side next to the sea, where there is a high and almost perpendicular rock.
Source: J Paterson 1837.
Clauchlands Point is a small headland comprising a narrow sloping ridge with a flat area on its top at NR 056 329. There is no evidence of a fort; however a turf-covered rock outcrop running along the spine of the ridge may have been interpreted as a rampart by Paterson. The headland slopes moderately from the NW towards the sea and it has a poor defensive situation.
Visited by OS (T R G) 31 October 1977.
