Archaeology Notes

NS24SW 4.02 231 423.

Castle Hill, adjacent to Ardrossan Castle (NS24SW 4) is rich in grass markings and other signs of artificial workings. The foundations at NS 2319 4237 may be those of a circular dovecot.

D H Caldwell 1974

The broad, parkland, plateau of Castle Hill shows the typical disturbances of intensive land-use and industrial activity. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted (see, however, NS24SW 3 and NS24SW 4 ).

At NS 2319 4237 is a slight, irregular swelling showing some loose stone. It appears to be of relatively late date, and there is no evidence of a circular foundations. OS 25" 1857 shows nothing at this point.

Visited by OS (JRL) 13 October 1982.
