Archaeology Notes

NS26SW 15 222 648.

On the W side of Brisbane Glen c.100m NW of the ruins of East Grassyards farm steading, a ditch occurs which is similar to that at NS26SW 14 but is shallower and shorter. At its upper end, on gentle slopes, it bifurcates to the N and disappears. Rig and furrow markings lie between this ditch and East Grassyards steading.

No connection was traced between this earthwork and NS26SW 14.

Activities

Field Visit (5 December 2017)

A historic environment assessment was required by SAC Consulting to inform a programme of tree planting across an area of 65ha at Brisbane Glen, Largs, North Ayrshire. A desk-based assessment and walkover survey was designed to establish a sound baseline on the historic environment within the landholding and to make recommendations on its management.

Two historic environment sites were identified and are considered within this report. Site S1 was an area of rig and furrow with an associated bank and ditch. Site S2 was a modern clearance cairn.

Based on the evidence gathered for this assessment, positive management has not been recommended for either of these sites.
