(NS 3046 1422) Knockdon Castle (NR) (Site of).

OS 6" map (1958)

"Knockdone" is listed by Abercrummie as one of the dwellings of the gentry; it is marked as such on Armstrong's map. The remains of the castle were removed "within the memory of persons still living" in 1856, but nothing further was known of it at that time.

No trace of this castle remains. It was situated on a shelf of ground above Sauchrie Burn.

Knockdon NS 304 142 NS31SW 7

The remains of this castle were probably removed in the late 18th or early 19th century. Knockdon is shown emparked on Pont's map of N Carrick and is listed as one of the dwellings of the gentry of Maybole in about 1700.
