(NS 3520 2025) Castlehill is a fine old mansion, standing on the hill from which its name is derived. It is traditionally said that a castle stood near this house, but no-one in the neighbourhood can point out the site.

Name Book 1856

Castlehill occupies a very conspicous site, probably that of an ancient British strength, commanding an extensive view.

J Paterson 1863

Castlehill house (shown on map of 1775 (A Armstrong)) demolished in c.1970. General local enquiries and perambulations in the area proved negative.
