(NS 38396892) St Fillan's Seat (NR)

OS 25" map (1965)

St Fillan's Seat, an earthfast boulder, is situated in a field near Kilallan (St Fillan's) Church (NS36NE 5). On its top is a circular hollow about 14ins across, forming a comfortable resting-place. To the right, as one site, is another hollow, an irregular oval in shape, 9 ins long by about 3 3/4ins broad. According to tradition, St Fillan sat in the seat and carried out baptisms with water from this cavity (J M Mackinlay 1895). Lyle describes St Fillan's Seat as "a huge boulder, with a rude font on the top, which was used for open-air baptism".

W W Lyle 1975

St Fillan's Seat is as described above; it appears to be a natural feature.
