Archaeology Notes

NS45NE 18 47445 55192.

A stone-faced bank, 2.5m to 4.0m broad, extends from crags on Neilston Pad at NS 474 552, and follows the 825ft contour round the SW side of the hill, the only part not defined by crags. The bank is indistinct on the upslope side, about 300m long, it ends just within the wood at NS 475 549. An area of about 26 acres is enclosed.

T C Welsh 1975.

This bank, which runs round the SW shoulder of Neilston Pad, is generally as previously described (Welsh 1975), but on the date of visit no stone was observed along its length. Enclosed within the bank is an area of rig-and-furrow in which the individual rigs measure up to 5m in breadth and are aligned E and W.

Visited by RCAHMS (JMH) 20 June 2007.
