Lugar Village and ironworks were erected in 1846.

J Butt 1967

(Location cited as NS 590 213). Lugar Ironworks and Village, rebuilt c. 1866 by the Eglinton Iron Company. In the village, built to serve the works, the square, an L-plan row of foremen's cottages, with the church (1867) formerly a foundry (1840's) at one end still exist. All the older rows of workers' housing have gone, apart from walls now forming boundaries, but some brick rows built in the 1920's survive, as do the houses of the woks' manager and underground manager, school, schoolhouse and institute (1892). The school and institute are now hosiery works.

J R Hume 1976.
