This shore lighthouse is situated at the NE end of the Eye peninsula, on the E coast of Lewis. Permission to build this lighthouse was initially refused by the Board of Trade, but the proposal was revived on the recommendation of the Western Highlands and Islands Commission; a watch for illegal trawlers was authorised. The lighthouse was visited by HM the Queen in 1956, and was automated in 1985.
