(NS 7553 4997) Patrickholm (NR)

OS 6" map (1913)

Applies to an ancient residence; it is now a farmhouse. It was according to tradition a place of rendezvous for the Royalists during the persecutions of the covenanters; but there are no acounts of its actual age or its history other than being the seat of the Hamiltons of Raploch.

Name Book 1888

Name in use confirmed as "Patrickholm" (Miss Adams, tenant).

Visited by OS (JFC) 12 March 1954

Patrickholm is a T-shaped, two-storeyed dwelling house of simple 17th century style. It is not occupied and falling into a state of disrepair. Some windows bear the original mouldings, but most have modern lintels and jambs inserted. Roof and chimneys are also modern.

There is a square armorial panel of the Hamiltons, without inscription, over the entrance in the north wall, and also a triangular panel in the east wall of the farm outbuildings which are themselves modern.

Surveyed at: 1/2500.

Visited by OS (JLD) 15 June 1959
