Archaeology Notes

NS84SE 68 8812 4360.

Excavations were carried out following the demolition of Vere House (NS84SE 55). An exloratory trench on the street frontage revealed no deposits, but in an area behind the house, excavation revealed a cobbled path running at right angles to Castlegate, in juxtaposition to a number of stone structures, including a kiln. Pottery and bottle glass ranging in date from the 15th to late 17th or early 18th century was recovered.
