(NS 883 977 and NS 889 980) Field System (NR) (Twice).

OS 6" map (1958)

Lynchets can be seen on the top of Little Tory and on the Middle Hill, Alva. Another series may be seen on the hill-slope staggered either side of the path that leads to the upper part of Alva Glen, which presupposes its existence.

A typical bank was 677ft long and the distance between two banks 88ft. They are locally called 'The Delvins' and that part of the hillside was used to grow potatoes in the early 19th century.

A L Drummond 1937; A Graham 1939

A series of terraces at intervals of approximately 20m with field strips between. A terraced track runs through these which are staggered on either side and the conclusion that the path pre-dates them (Drummond) appears to be correct. The remains of a rough boulder wall, running E-W, were seen, but from the fact that it crosses the track, it, therefore, post-dates it. Period of field system uncertain. No further information was encountered during investigation.

This site was included within the RCAHMS Marginal Land Survey (1950-1962), an unpublished rescue project. Site descriptions, organised by county, are available to view online - see the searchable PDF in 'Digital Items'. These vary from short notes, to lengthy and full descriptions. Contemporary plane-table surveys and inked drawings, where available, can be viewed online in most cases - see 'Digital Images'. The original typecripts, notebooks and drawings can also be viewed in the RCAHMS search room.

Little Torry NS c. 88 98 NS89NE 10

Cultivation terraces are recorded at c. NS 883 980 and ‘strip lynchets’ at c. NS 883 977, the latter known locally as the Delvins. When the area was visited no traces of these monuments could be seen because of bracken,
