Archaeology Notes

NS89SW 36 849 936

Some remains of timber revetment may be seen in the banks of the lowermost reaches of the River Devon, but nothing to suggest the "pier" that existed in 1793. The earthwork on the left bank seems to have carried some structure, presumably industrial, but in fairly recent years.

OSA 1793; A Graham 1971

A pier was located at the mouth of the Devon in 1793. In 1971 timbers were visible and an earthwork on the left bank was thought to have been of some industrial use. During this survey nothing was visible on the ground and there were no signs of the timbers. The 1st edition OS map does not show any structure or enclosure here.

Site recorded by GUARD during the Coastal Assessment Survey for Historic Scotland, 'The Firth of Forth from Dunbar to the Coast of Fife' 23 February 1996.
