(NT 0390 4605) Castle (NR) (Site of).

OS 6" map (1957)

The site of this structure, described by Murray and Irving as of "Scottish tower and peel type with a vaulted lower storey and a surrounding ditch", was pointed out to the ONB compiler by the owner of the ground on which it stood up till c.1810, when it had become so dangerous that it was pulled down and its stones removed to build dykes, so that by 1859 no trace of it remained. Originally it measured c.20' by 15'. Its proprietor is mentioned in 1572.

Name Book 1859; G V Irving and A Murray 1864

All that remains on this site is a faint rectangular swelling in pasture, measuring approximately 7m x 5m, and of negligible height.

Visited by OS (JD) 9 June 1955

Nothing now remains of the tower. The site and surrounding pasture have been disturbed by quarrying.

Visited by OS (DWR) 7 July 1971.
