Archaeology Notes

NT09NE 13 090 993.

A Middle Bronze Age spearhead (Coles' Class D), found in a tumulus at Craigton (NT 090 993) in 1855, was exhibited to the members of the Soc of Ants of Scotland in 1875. It was 6 1/4 ins long and covered with a chocolate-coloured patina which appeared to be an artificial mineral varnish, laid on to protect the weapon from oxidation (Prof Duns 1876). The present location of the spearhead is not known.
