Archaeology Notes

NT22SE 3 267 246.

Area centred NT 2670 2470 The turf footings and outlines of at least eleven buildings, varying in size from 5.0 x 4.0 m. to 21.0 x 5.0 m., are situated in enclosed arable land to the N. of Dryhope farm. Associated with these Buildings are enclosures of various shapes and sizes - their turf-covered banks varying in height from 0.2 to 0.5 m. - and fragments of old field banks.

The enclosures to the NW and NE of Dryhope Tower (NT22SE 2) are more curvilinear in outline and suggest an earlier period of construction than the features described above: in this group are the fragmentary remains of a circular enclosure which has measured 10.5 by 10.0 m. In addition to the above, fragments of foundations are evident within the area but form no definite features.

Surveyed at 1/2500.
