St Cuthberts' Church and parish of Halis or Hailes, was founded c.1095 by Ethelred, Earl of Fife. It belonged to Dunfermline Abbey. A church dedicated by David de Bernham in 1248 was probably destroyed during the English invasion of 1544-5 (see also NT26NW 2).
