Archaeology Notes

NT27SE 122 275 735

St Giles' Hospital, which lay within the cemetery of the church of St Giles (NT27SE 6, centred NT 2575 7354) is first mentioned in 1541, and according to a charter of 1566, it had been burned by the English (1544 x 1547) and was ruinous and in need of repair. Easson's suggestion in 1957 that this hospital was only a residence for the provost and curate of St Giles is inaccurate.

D E Easson 1957; I B Cowan and D E Easson 1976.
