Archaeology Notes

NT28NE 14 c. 271 870.

An urn, 12 1/2 ins high was found in 1848 near Abden House (NT 2714 8708) when cutting through the rocks on the sea shore for building the railway. The urn lay in an inverted position on the flat surface of the rock, at a depth of 5ft and was full of ashes and burnt bones. It is in the National Museum. (EA 4)

Urn Burial.

An urn, measuring 13 by 11 inches, now in the National Museum, was found near Abden House, in this parish, in 1848 by workmen engaged in cutting through the rocks on the sea-shore, preparatory to the formation of the railway. When discovered it lay in an inverted position on the fiat surface of the rock, at a depth of five feet, and was full of ashes and burnt bones.
