Archaeology Notes

NT28SE 4 c. 295 825

St Adamnan (624 - 704) founded an evangelising monastery on the island of Inchkeith (NT 2982) between 679 and 704 (Dr Reeves nd.) and dedicated the church to St Columba.

J Dickson 1899; Dr Reeves nd.

According to Bower, Adamnan was abbot of Inchkeith, which, of course, is wrong. This may be confusion with Adamnan of Coldingham.

W J Watson 1926; J de Fordoun 1759.
