Along the old road which leads west over Fethan Hill from south of Traquair Church was a place or village named Helvellyn, often mentioned in forest charters.

NT 3068 3352. The supposed site of the village was pointed out on the map by Mr. Elder, of Kirkhouse Farm, and where he had seen building foundations many years ago. Nothing is visible on the ground.
