Archaeology Notes

NT36NW 19 33144 65712

(NT 3314 6570) Newbattle Bridge is possibly a 16th c structure which has been extensively rebuilt. Its two wide, slightly pointed arches are relatively modern. An illegible, weather-worn armorial panel is above each of the arches, on the W side of the bridge.

RCAHMS 1929, visited 1921

This bridge has been much restored, although the carriageway is still only 3m wide. The armorial panels have been removed. No date stone is visible.

Visited by OS (JFC) 13 September 1954

No change to previous field report.

Visited by OS (BS) 30 October 1975
