Archaeology Notes

NT37SW 35 3446 7206.

(NT 3446 7206) A bronze As of Vespasian (AD 77-78) in almost mint condition was found c.1931-2 right against the boundary wall between the grounds of Inveresk House and the graveyard of St Michael's Church, about halfway between Oliver's Mount and the wall bounding Inveresk Village Road (Mrs Gold, owner, Inveresk House).

MacDonald (1934) mentions 'another coin of Vespasian, possibly a Denarius, is said to have been found in the same area in 1930', but this is believed to have been confused with the As mentioned above. Information from G Maxwell, RCAHMS, telephone call, 26 October 1970.

No further information.
