Archaeology Notes

NT37SW 55 34739 72904.

The dovecot, S of Loretto School (NT 348 729) has been converted into a Memorial Clock Tower and is scarcely recognisable now as a dovecot. It measures 17'1 1/2" x 13' with rubble walls. There is a 6" wide string course on the E, S and W sides. The S wall has a blocked-up circular light above the course. The original entrance was in the E wall, but it is now blocked to hold a memorial tablet. The building has a battlemented top with turrets.
