Tamlane's Well is by the roadside, at the foot of the steep slope that descends from the Carterhaugh farm buildings. The water is delivered by an iron pipe into a large stone trough.
RCAHMS 1957, visited 1952
This well, and Tamlane (son of Randolph, Earl of Moray) are referred to in a fairy ballad (W Scott).
Name Book 1858
The trough into which this well flowed, and water pipe are still in situ, but the well, which was in the bank 2.5 m N of the trough, is now filled in.
