(NT 7853 6775) Peel Tower (NR) (Site of)
OS 6" map, Berwickshire, 2nd ed., (1908).
The authority for the above publication is unknown, the relevant Name Book having been destroyed by enemy action during the 1939-45 war.
Information from OS recorder (DG) 20 September 1954.
There is no trace of remains in the position indicated by the published symbol and Mr White, farmer Bowshiels, states that he has dug trenches in this position and has found nothing suggestive of remains of a building. At NT 7855 6774, a short stretch of wall adjoining a barn has no obvious relationship with any of the farm buildings. It is about 0.5m thick and constructed of large stones, but large stones are also used in the construction of the farm buildings.
Visited by OS (CJP) 27 September 1956.
No trace of this tower remains. There is no evidence to connect the stretch of wall mentioned in the previous field report with the tower.
Visited by OS(WDJ) 27 April 1966.
No further information.
