(NX 2937 4955) Hut Circle (NR)

OS 1:10000 map (1982)

A possible defensive enclosure - a circular area covered with odd heaps of stones and overgrown with bracken, around a small segment of which there is an earth-and-stone bank. It lies at the bottom of the slope of the field (cf NX24NE 12 - Homestead).

RCAHMS 1912, visited 1911

A hut circle situated in a small SW-facing hollow on the side of a hill. The stone and earthen bank up to 1.0m high encloses a levelled area measuring 11.5m N-S and 10.0m E-W. No entrance was discernible. There are some twenty grass-covered clearance cairns in this area but cultivation has obliterated all trace of fields.

Resurveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (TRG) 10 July 1976
