Archaeology Notes

NX34NW 31 3332 4533.

NX 333 453. Low Clone North. A scatter of Mesolithic flints, recovered between 1962 and 1964 from the S side of a ravine cutting the raised beach deposits, are in Dumfries Museum. They were donated by W F Cormack.

J M Coles 1964

Mr Cormack indicated the area of the flint scatter (centred at NX 3332 4533) on the OS 6" map.

The finds are in Dumfries Museum but they are yet to be sorted and catalogued (A E Truckell, Dumfries Museum). Mesolithic flints are continually being discovered in this region, usually near the 50ft contour on the edge of the coastal cliff (W F Cormack, Royal Bank Buildings, Lockerbie).

Visited by OS (MJF) 20 May 1977.
