(NX 7577 6747) Carlochan Cairn (NR)

OS 6" map (1958)

The remains of a very large cairn which has been quarried to such an extent that the outline is quite indefinite. It appears to have been examined about 1780 when a cist and a bronze dagger blade were found in it. The blade was presented to National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1782.

RCAHMS 1914, visited 1911

The site of this cairn, covered with thick grass, is now virtually indistinguishable from the surrounding ground. Still known as

'Carlochan Cairn'.

Revised at 25".
