(NX 8352 5960) Mote (NR)

OS 6" map (1957)

Earthwork (R W Feachem 1956). Little Richorn. A mound, measuring 150ft N to S x 175ft transversely, which abuts on the River Urr to the west and is surrounded on the other three sides by a ditch 40 to 50ft wide. Excavation in 1891 revealed the basal course of a wall of roughly hewn granite blocks skirting the top from near the SW corner to the middle of the east side and for 44ft at the NW corner.

F R Coles 1893; RCAHMS 1914

This is a motte. No trace of the wall found in 1891 can now be seen

Resurveyed at 1/2500
