EXTERNAL REFERENCES

(NX 9689 6423) The western most island in Loch Kindar is formed of a pile of stones, which rises 6 or 7 feet above the surface of the water, standing on a frame of large oaks which was said, in 1792, to be visible when the weather is clear and calm. Trees now grow on the island.

OSA 1792 (W Wright); NSA 1845 (J Hamilton)

This island is roughly circular, measuring c 16.0 m diameter. Skin divers employed by Dumfries Museum confirmed the existence of the wooden frame described above, leaving no doubt that this is a crannog.
