Archaeology Notes

NX97NE 56 975 766.

NX 975 766. The pottery kilns of Dumfries appear to have stood here, on a low ridge just outside the N gate of the medieval town. Pottery found in the gardens of houses now occupying the ridge, of which there are specimens in Dumfries Museum, suggests that the kilns were in use from the 13th - 16th centuries.
