(Location cited as NY 364 844). Langholm Gas Works, founded 1836. A group of white-washed rubble buildings, with a Belfast-roofed retort house containing 2 benches of 6 retorts, and a square-section brick chimney. The purifiers are under an open-sided shelter, supported on cast-iron columns. The main holder is of the 2-section self-supporting type, made by Henry Balfour and Co., Leven, 1932, and there is a small regulating holder used in conjunction with a rubber holder during repairs to the main holder.
