Accessing Scotland's Past Project

The 1971 edition of the Ordnance Survey 1:10000 maps depicts what are probably four shieling-huts a short distance above the south bank of the River Gairn.

NJ20SW 7 2058 0154

(Location cited as NJ 2058 0154). Wester Kirn, Glen Gairn. The footings of a group of four longhouses have been recorded in an area of grouse moor on a moderate NE-facing slope at an altitude of 457m OD.

What may be three unroofed shieling-huts are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet lxxix). Four unroofed buildings are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1971).
