Activities

Field Visit (3 September 1991)

NT19SW 23 1080 9210

Easter Craigduckie Brick and Tile Works have been reduced to earthworks. The works are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife & Kinross, 1856, sheet 35) as roofed, but only one building is shown on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map, (Fifeshire,1896, sheet xxxiv SW). The earthworks consist of a clay pit on the NW and several rectinlinear sunken floored structures on the higher ground to the SE. One of these structures is L-shaped, but the best-defined is rectangular, measuring 24m in length by 5m transversely. There are traces of trackways leading from the pit between the structures. On the date of visit the site of a building depicted on the 1st edition (ibid), to the NW was obscured in deep grass (NT 1075 9214).
