Activities

Field Visit (3 September 1991)

NT19SW 30.04 1241 9251

Only the slightest remains of the village of Parley now survive. It is depicted on the 1915 revision of the 2nd edition of the OS 25-inch map (Fifeshire, 1915, sheet xxxiv 6), to the N of Pit No.9. The footing's of one of the rows of cottages are still visible (NT 1232 9253) and measure about 50m by 6m overall. A shallow scoop adjacent to the track (NT 1241 9252) masks the site of another building.

Visited by RCAHMS (SPH) 3 September 1991.

Note (1996)

An archaeological desk-based assessment followed by a field inspection were undertaken to evaluate the archaeological potential of the area of a proposed opencast mine. The results of this work suggest that the area has significant archaeological potential. A large part of the area includes a complex of sites relating to the recent mining heritage of the area. The following site was identified within the study area:

NT 1241 9251 Parley village (NT 19 SW 30.04).

A report has been produced; a copy will be deposited with the NMRS.
