Archaeology Notes

NG53SE 9 5555 3485

Lying on an E-facing slope amongst the ruinous structures of Suishnish at about 30m OD are the ruinous remains of a small souterrain. The collapsed entrance faces E and opens onto a small hollow conatining a burn. A shallow sink 5m W of the entrance may indicate the line of the passage.

Visited by M Nicolson, March 1991.

R Miket et al 1991; NMRS MS/530.

This feature was visited during a field survey of the Suisnish area of Raasay by ACFA, who have conducted surveys on the island every year since 1995. It measures 2.5m x 1.8m and consists of a hollow with two holes with large stones to the W. It is thought parts of the tunnel have collapsed, leaving hollows and depressions.
