D Hall 1993.
Sbc Note (1993)
Trial excavations took place in 1993 to assess the survival of archaeological deposits on the site. Two trenches were looked at:
Trench A= Lay on the western side of the site on the north south alignment. At the southern end lay the remains of a dry stone wall running on an east west alignment.
Trench B= Lay on the northern side of the site. A homogenous deposit of grey-brown sandy clay was located above broken red sandstone.
No artefacts were recovered from either of these trenches. The drystone wall is thought to be associated with the 18th century buildings that are marked on a 1775 map of Jedburgh. The soils from Trench B suggest that this part of the site has always been garden ground.
