Archaeological Notes

NY38SW 43 3221 8208

A farmstead, comprising three subrectangular buildings, several enclosures and plots of lazy-beds, lies on the edge of a terrace above the modern track between Wauchope School House (NY38SW 69) and Cleuchfoot steading (NY38SW 64.00). The largest building lies at the centre, and measures 17.5m from NW to SE by 5.3m transversely over banks 1.3m in thickness and 0.25m in height. The second building lies immediately to the SE and measures 6m by 4.3m overall, while the third is situated to the NW on the opposite side of a natural gully. This building is open-ended to the NE and measures 9.8m by 4.5m overall.
