Along with my brothers I stayed in this children's home several times. I have sad memories, as I am sure others do. The beautiful laid out gardens were not for us to have access to. Our play area was on the shadowed side of the building. Often in little groups under the rhododendron bushes and in the woodland. The front door it seemed was enormous and inside much polished floors with silverware on shelves.

The dormitory for girls had long windows with views to the sunny floral 'secret garden' (as I saw it). As girls, we had for our private bedside space, an upturned orange box made pretty by scraps of curtain and wallpaper. Sleepwalking was rife and there was much sadness at night.

Anyone who reads this and would like to contribute to the history of this Children's Home on these pages, might help cast some light on the running of the Martha Frew Home and it's impact on so many children's lives then and their adult lives now.
